Being the child of a creative person can’t be easy.

Children of creatives are always in danger of being talked into doing crazy things. A couple of months ago I got this crazy idea in my head for a “retro rainbow” photo shoot. I knew immediately who my muse would be. My poor kiddos suffer from PCS, a.k.a., Photographer’s Child Syndrome, in which the child(ren) of a photographer have been photographed so many times throughout their young life, they are no longer interested in smiling at a camera, much less even look at one. The. Struggle. Is. Real.

However, with the promise of a new, fun outfit for the shoot, and a sweet treat afterwards, many children who suffer from Photographer’s Child Syndrome can temporarily find relief from being “over” having their picture taken, and actually cooperate. Such was the case on the day of this particular session.

Mackenzie is a natural drama queen, and despite the threat of rain the morning of these photos, she rocked those rainbow socks and gave me plenty of (fun) attitude from behind her shades. Until she heard thunder and then she was done haha!

My good friend, and fellow photog Holly and I plan to take this project a step or two farther this coming spring/summer and explore all the colors of the rainbow with my goofy girl.

Not only was this a fun project to fuel my creative soul, it was also an opportunity to photograph my ever changing pre-tween. Our kiddos never stop growing and changing, and my sentimental heart wants to remember it all. I know I’ll never be able to remember every moment, but the more pictures I have, the fresher the memories remain.

This session was shot entirely on Fuji 400h film. All sessions in 2019 with kDarling Photography will be photographed on film. What does that mean for you? Well, not much will change for you friends, you’ll still receive your images via an online gallery. You’ll still be able to print where you wish or through my professional lab. What will change? I will get to slow down a bit at your sessions, allowing me to pay closer attention to details. We’ll get to know each other better, and we’ll have even more fun! Sound great – you’re excited?
