Saturday I had the honor of photographing the Luke Remington I Made a Difference Walk in Rantoul, IL. The walk, now in it’s 11th year donates 100% of it’s proceeds to The American Cancer Society and other cancer related organizations. The evening started off with the National Anthem, and then a reading of names of the honored by Jessica Holmes while Amazing Grace played softly in the background. Following reading was the survivor walk. This is always such a moving moment at events like this and it was inspiring to see the bond they all shared.
This years walk included a large silent auction and 50/50 raffle. These events, along with the luminaries that are sold, are the event’s main source of fundraising. It is incredible to see how many businesses and individuals with contribute donated items and gift certificates to wonderful causes such as this. There was also a cake walk, face painting, hot dogs served by the Rantoul Fire Department and a visit from several superheros!
Luke Remington was a 4th grader at St. Malachy school in Rantoul. His memory lives strong with his parents, siblings and all that knew him. Unfortunately, I never had the honor of meeting him, however I do know his mom Erin. She is a teacher at Fisher Grade School and taught my son. She is a kind, carrying and compassionate soul, and from all I’ve heard, Luke shared these wonderful traits and was a friend to everyone he met.
If you would like to donate to cancer research, you can do so by attending an event such as this or donating directly to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or

Hey there, I’m Kristin, owner and photographer at kDarling Photography located in Fisher, a small town in Central Illinois, just a few minutes from Champaign-Urbana. When I don’t have a camera in my hand, I can be found at one of the kids’ many activities, or at the “happiest place on Earth”…which is Target, of course!! I have 2 of the sweetest kiddos, Payton and Mackenzie and have been married to my best friend for 18 years. Capturing the true personalities of those I photograph paired with yummy dreamy light makes my heart sing. Film and digital photography are both my weapons of choice to create cherished memories, which makes me a “hybrid photographer.” In studio lifestyle newborn photography is my specialty, along with children of all ages and families, with an occasional high school senior sprinkled in for good measure.
