The 78th annual Fisher Community Fair is quickly approaching! This fair has everything including pageants, displays, entertainment, rides, livestock, tractor/truck pulls, donkey races, MARK CHESNUTT, and the always exciting Demo Derby on Saturday night!
The full schedule of events can be found here. There is truly something for everyone of any age!
The Fisher Community Fair opens next Tuesday night in Fisher, IL with the much anticipated Miss Fisher Fair Queen Pageant! Several contestants are slated to compete for the titles of Miss Fisher Fair, Jr. Miss Fisher Fair and Little Miss Fisher Fair. The young ladies that win these titles act as ambassadors of the Fisher Fair make TV appearances, travel all over the state to attend county fairs, parades, events and represent the Fisher Fair at the Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Pageant in Springfield, IL.
During the week of the fair they have many important tasks, such as handing out ribbons to prize winners, judging the Mutt Show, introducing entertainment events, and much much more! Each year I enjoy taking the queens to the midway for a fun photo shoot. We always have some entertaining moments!
Wednesday at the fair starts with the much loved Kid’s Games! There is something for everyone – and you may just win a new bike! You’re guaranteed to go home with candy!
After the kids games are over everyone moves into the air conditioned Glades Hall for the Kiddie Tractor Pulls. So many kids look forward to this year after year (I know how disappointed mine were when they became too big to participate). Toy tractors are handed out to the top pullers and it’s always fun when there are ties that result in “pull-offs.”
There is something for everyone of any age to enjoy at the Fisher Fair. In the exhibit hall there are items on display from people all over the community and beyond. Floral arrangements, photography entries, baked goods, quilts, garden vegetables, decorated bowling pins, lego models and much much more!
Also everyday from 1-3 you will find BINGO in Glades hall. It’s a great way to take a break from the heat and make new friends!
Donkey Races are back on Thursday night of the fair! The Donkey Races are sure to make you laugh until you cry. It’s hilarious to watch your friends and neighbors try to navigate the stubborn animals around the dirt track!
The All American Mutt show is always an entertaining daytime event at the fair – we have some really talented – and adorable mutts in Fisher!
The livestock show is the heart and soul of the Fisher Fair. Livestock shows at county fairs bring attention to America’s farming community. From Farmweeknow.com : “Fairs and livestock exhibitions are the foundation for agriculture promotion in our society and, as our population continues to shift towards an urban demographic, it is the responsibility of a county fair to remind the public of the key role that agriculture – and rural communities – will continue to play in our economy and daily lives.”
Year after year, Swyear Amusements provides first class rides, games and entertainment at the Fisher Fair. The midway is where friends old and new meet up. Adults that once ran around riding until they couldn’t ride anymore, now watch their children enjoy the rides. Tweens and teens enjoy a taste of “freedom” running around the midway going from ride to ride – especially on armband nights, when you can ride all the rides you want from 6 – 10 p.m. for just $22. This year’s armband nights are Wednesday & Friday!
For the past several years, Ryann Kesler and I have photographed the sights and sounds around the Fisher Fair. We have trenched through mud, endured the heat, survived torrential downpours, and taken thousands of pictures of the fair we love. Last year my daughter Mackenzie joined us for a few events.
This year Mark Chesnutt will be headlining the entertainment in the grandstands on Friday night of the fair along with Drew Baldridge & The Feudin’ Hillbillys. I know everyone involved with the Fair is SUPER excited for Friday night!
The fun of fair week is rounded out by the Fisher Fair 5K on Saturday morning. There is still time to enter – and time to train for it HAHA!
Also during the day on Saturday is a classic car show at the fairgrounds.
Saturday night closes out the fair with the annual Demolition Derby. It is always a SMASHING good time with 5 classes, great payouts and you can bid on a van to drive in the Van class! There is just something about watching these vehicles rev their engines and CRASH into each other!
Hey there, I’m Kristin, owner and photographer at kDarling Photography located in Fisher, a small town in Central Illinois, just a few minutes from Champaign-Urbana. When I don’t have a camera in my hand, I can be found at one of the kids’ many activities, or at the “happiest place on Earth”…which is Target, of course!! I have 2 of the sweetest kiddos, Payton and Mackenzie and have been married to my best friend for 18 years. Capturing the true personalities of those I photograph paired with yummy dreamy light makes my heart sing. Film and digital photography are both my weapons of choice to create cherished memories, which makes me a “hybrid photographer.” In studio lifestyle newborn photography is my specialty, along with children of all ages and families, with an occasional high school senior sprinkled in for good measure.
