There is something so tender about the first few weeks with a new baby. The days often blur together in the gentlest way — sleepy stretches, tiny fingers, familiar feeding rhythms, and the quiet wonder of getting to know the little one you have been waiting to hold. It is a season that feels both full and fleeting, and so much of its beauty lives in the small, ordinary moments you never want to forget.
Your newborn session is meant to preserve those first days with honesty and care. Not only how your baby looked, but how this season felt for your family — the softness, the closeness, the love, and the way life shifted as you welcomed your newest little one into your arms.
At my studio in Fisher, Illinois, I photograph newborn sessions for families throughout Central Illinois, including Champaign, Mahomet, Bloomington, and surrounding communities. Each session is designed to feel calm, peaceful, and unhurried, with timeless newborn images that keep the focus where it belongs: on your baby and the people who love them most.

When Should You Schedule a Newborn Session?
Newborn sessions are best scheduled within the first four weeks of life. During this time, babies are often still very sleepy and naturally curl into those soft, cozy positions that photograph so beautifully. While it is absolutely possible to photograph your baby after that window, these early weeks are often ideal if you are hoping for those sleepy newborn portraits.
If you are currently expecting and looking for a newborn photographer in Central Illinois, it is always helpful to reach out before baby arrives. That way, your due date can be reserved on my calendar and everything feels a little easier once your little one is here.

A Calm, Baby-Led Newborn Session
Newborn sessions typically last around 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the collection you choose and how often baby needs to pause for feeding, changing, or extra comfort. These sessions are always baby-led, which simply means there is room to slow down and follow your baby’s needs.
There is no pressure to rush. Some babies settle quickly, and others need a little more time. Both are completely normal. The goal is never perfection. The goal is a peaceful experience and meaningful images that reflect this season with tenderness and care.
My style is simple, soft, and timeless. I use a neutral palette of whites, creams, soft pinks, grays, and blues with little to no props so the focus stays on your baby, your family, and the connection you share.

How to Prepare for Your Newborn Session
A little preparation before you arrive can help the session go as smoothly as possible.
Try to feed your baby shortly before coming to the studio.
Dress baby in a zip-up or snap-up sleeper or onesie so clothing does not need to be pulled over their head.
Bring extra milk or formula, since babies often use more energy during a session and may want to eat a little more than usual.
If your baby takes a pacifier, please bring one along. The Soothie style tends to work especially well during newborn sessions.
The studio is kept warm, usually between 75 and 80 degrees, to help your baby stay cozy and comfortable. A warm room, a full tummy, and a relaxed pace all help create a peaceful environment for your newborn photos.

Your baby’s safety is always the most important part of the session. Every pose is guided gently and with great care, always paying close attention to your baby’s comfort and cues. Babies are never placed into anything that feels forced or unnatural.
Because newborn sessions are baby-led, I work with the way your baby naturally settles. Small adjustments to hands, feet, and positioning help create beautiful, natural images while keeping your little one comfortable and secure.
If there is anything especially meaningful you would love included in your session, you are always welcome to share that ahead of time. The most beautiful images are often the ones that feel personal to your family and true to this chapter of your story.

One of the sweetest parts of a newborn session is making space for the people who loved this baby before they even arrived. Parent and sibling images are often some of the most meaningful photographs from the entire session because they tell the fuller story of these first days — not just who your baby was, but who was there loving them from the very beginning.
Newborn sessions are reserved for immediate family only, which includes parents and siblings. Keeping the studio quiet and relaxed helps create a calm experience for your baby and allows us to focus on the connections that matter most during this season. Thank you so much for understanding and for helping preserve that peaceful rhythm for your family’s session.
If older siblings will be joining, a little preparation at home can be very helpful, especially for children under age three. You might practice having them sit or lie down next to baby while you take a quick photo with your phone, just so the idea feels familiar. There is no need for anything elaborate. A little comfort and encouragement goes a long way.

My newborn photography studio is located at:
103 N First St.
Fisher, IL 61843
Parking is available directly in front of the steps for your convenience.
As your session approaches, I encourage you to keep this information nearby so it is easy to find when you need it. I also know that leaving the house with a brand new baby can take more time than expected. If you think you may be running more than 20 minutes late, please text, call, or email me so we can talk through the best option together.

The work of your session continues long after you leave the studio. Because I photograph on film, your rolls are carefully packaged and sent to my lab for processing after your session. Once the scans are returned, I go through each image and select the very best photographs for your gallery.
Your proofing gallery will be delivered approximately four weeks after your session. At that time, you will be able to view your images and select any albums or digital files included with or available for purchase through your collection. If your collection includes all digital images, your gallery will be ready for downloading and sharing right away.
A print release will also be included with your final gallery. For the best possible quality, I always recommend printing through a professional lab so your images are cared for well from beginning to end. Specialty products such as albums or announcements may take approximately 6 to 8 weeks to arrive.
The best time to book your newborn session is while you are still expecting. This helps reserve space around your due date and makes planning much easier once baby arrives.

Newborn photos are ideally taken within the first four weeks after birth, when babies are often sleepier and more easily settled into those soft, curled-up poses.

Congratulations on your sweet baby and this beautiful new season for your family. It is such an honor to preserve these first memories with care and intention, and to create images that will bring you back to this season for years to come.

There is something so sacred about these first days with a new baby. The tiny stretches, sleepy yawns, wrinkly little features, and the quiet wonder of new life all pass so quickly. My heart in photographing newborns is to preserve this season with care, so your family can remember not only how small your baby was, but how deeply they were loved from the very beginning.
