That is how how I would describe newborn sessions at kDarling Photography.
Finding the words to go with my blog posts is such a struggle for me…(which is probably why I don’t post as often as I should!). In recent years I have fallen in love with minimalist newborn photography. Newborn sessions should be all about baby with simple, timeless images that will always remind you how your baby slept with his hand by his mouth, or how tiny those little sweet features were. There is not much to say about it other than babies are beautiful just as they are! I love to let the light and shadows tell a story that captures the innocence of your newborn child. That is what I am drawn to the most as an artist and if you as a parent are drawn to the beauty of simplicity as well then I am happy to discuss booking your very own newborn session for you!
Q. How long will our session last?
A. Newborn sessions range from approximately 1.5 hours to 3 hours. The length of the session is determined by several factors, including if family/sibling images are being included, how often baby needs to eat (a full baby is a happy baby), and how many “set ups” we decide on.
Q. What if my baby just won’t sleep?!
A. No worries! Newborn sessions are relaxed and laid back! As long as baby is content, he or she will be photographed! Awake babies are often swaddled to keep them from startling or flailing their arms. Often, once swaddled, newborns feel safer and more relaxed, as they did while in the womb, and drift right off to sleep. I have many tricks up my sleeves for soothing babies, and have often been called a “baby whisperer” by parents. No matter if your baby is awake and happy, or asleep and dreaming, we will capture sweet images of them.
As you’ll see in the images below, sweet Own didn’t sleep the entire time – no problem! I simply wrapped him up and kept the session going.
Q. Should we bring outfits, bows, etc…for our newborn?
A. If you have heirloom items or other special items that you would like to include, I am always happy to customize your session to accommodate these items. Just send me a cell phone picture ahead of time, to help me plan how to best incorporate them into your session. Often times, even “newborn” size outfits are still large on newborns, and because of this, I recommend leaving baby’s attire to me 😉
These are just some of the questions I am often asked. Recently, I designed a PDF with additional information on preparing for your newborn session that every client receives. My goal is to make all your sessions at kDarling Photography wonderful experiences resulting in photography memories to last a lifetime.
