a girl ages about 9-14…too old for toys, but too young for boys. (Urban Dictionary)
Now more than ever, it is so important to show our daughter’s their true beauty and uniqueness from the inside out. In an age of ever growing social media influencing their every thought, it’s time to put that powerful influence to good. It’s time to show them that true friends build each other up, cheer each other on, and never let each other down.
Recently, I got to spend time with these 3 friends. And I have to tell you folks, these are girls that are not afraid to be themselves, they root for each other – even when in direct competition with the other, and they are there when one needs a shoulder to cry on or a good laugh!
These tween years are when our children are becoming self aware, finding their own style, and learning the beat of their own drum. This is a time to celebrate them just as they are! Often we make pictures a priority when they’re babies and toddlers, letting the yearly custom photo session go by the way side and settling for their school portraits until they’re high school seniors! However school portraits don’t truly capture their personality: the way they crinkle their nose when they laugh, or play with their hair just so.
We started out our morning together on the steps of Krannert Center and ending in downtown Champaign. We had so much fun together. They started out a bit self conscious, however by the end of our time together, you could tell they felt like rock stars! These extra special things we do now to help them realize their value and self worth will stick with tour girls through bad grades, break ups, fights with friends, acne, braces, and on and on. They’ll remember that one moment doesn’t define them, and they are wonderful and beautiful just because they are who they are.
