Often people ask me what my favorite age or genre is to photograph.  That is an almost impossibly question for me to answer.  If I’ve just photographed a newborn, I say, “Newborn!”  If it’s a wedding, my answer is, “Weddings, I love LOVE!”  So if you had asked me after Gibson’s 1 year photo session, the answer would have been, “One year old sessions with a cake smash – hands down!”  How could you not love working with this sweet little boy with those adorable cheeks and those blue eyes!  Seriously, check out those blue eyes – no photo manipulations here, no tricks to brighten his eyes.  They shine like that when you meet him in person.  That boy is gonna break hearts some day with those eyes!

I was delighted when Gibson’s mom asked if they could do a few family pictures at the beginning of their session.  It is so important for parents (ahem, moms I’m talking to you) to get in the pictures!  Gibson got special camera time with mom and dad together and then individually – what a sweetie!  And check out that adorable outfit that mom Makayla found – those suspenders and that bow tie – cuteness overload!  Did you notice those little lobsters on his other shirt?  How seriously precious is that?!

You never know how cake smashes will go.  Will baby dig in?  Pick gently at the frosting?  Or just bawl their eyes out?!  Gibson did not waste any time digging into his cake, that his momma made (she’s super talented, isn’t she?) eventually smearing it into his hair.  When he was finished, he dumped the whole thing over and crawled away.  Too funny!

Getting to know Gibson and his parents over these past few months has been such a blessing.  Enjoy these milestones, one by one, treasure each moment – they’re all so special!
