The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They’re really saying I love you-Louis Armstrong, What a Wonderful World
As long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by rainbows, and now my daughter is too. I remember seeing my first double rainbows over the mountain tops in Wyoming while visiting family. I love running outside after a storm with Mackenzie searching for the rainbow. At our wedding, my dad and I danced to What a Wonderful World, by Louis Armstrong – I wonder if she’ll choose the same song to dance with her daddy someday. Rainbows symbolize peace, hope and promises made by God. Who doesn’t love a rainbow!!??
These colorful pictures of Mackenzie were inspired by my good friend and fellow photographer Holly’s painted wall project from a couple summers ago. Mackenzie has quite the colorful personality which goes hand in hand with her love of rainbows, so this was the perfect project to do with her. Last summer I took her to a blue wall in a neighboring town in the same outfit, and once I told Holly about my plans to take similar photos with all the colors of the rainbow, she asked if she could join in – um yes!!
While Holly is a digital photographer, I am a film photographer, so comparing the images taken on the same day, at the same time and seeing the beautiful differences between the 2 formats was amazing. Holly’s are bright and bold, mine are a bit more subdued with yummy dreamy skin tones, due to the type of film I prefer to use outdoors (Fuji 400H). You can view Holly’s images here – so much fun!
Hey there, I’m Kristin, owner and photographer at kDarling Photography located in Fisher, a small town in Central Illinois, just a few minutes from Champaign-Urbana. When I don’t have a camera in my hand, I can be found at one of the kids’ many activities, or at the “happiest place on Earth”…which is Target, of course!! I have 2 of the sweetest kiddos, Payton and Mackenzie and have been married to my best friend for 18 years. Capturing the true personalities of those I photograph paired with yummy dreamy light makes my heart sing. Film and digital photography are both my weapons of choice to create cherished memories, which makes me a “hybrid photographer.” In studio lifestyle newborn photography is my specialty, along with children of all ages and families, with an occasional high school senior sprinkled in for good measure.
