This fall I had the pleasure of meeting the Trumpower family. When mom, Kathy, first contacted me about family pictures, she told me they had never had family pictures taken, and would I consider doing the session at their home in Onarga? I was immediately intrigued. After a great phone call where she told me about her large porch, red barn and wooded property we chose a date and to say I was excited would be an understatement!

Upon arriving at the Trumpower home, I observed the epic wraparound porch with the light hitting the front steps perfectly. I noticed the huge yard and wooded area – and my favorite, the big red barn. I’m a sucker for old barns. It breaks my heart to see them torn down or left to decay. This barn is in great shape, I’m happy to report, and ready for pictures!

Kathy is a blogger with, “a passion for making her family’s life a little more natural by finding ways to do it on a budget.” She and her hubby Anthony moved from the Chicago area to Onarga where they found their dream home to remodel and raise their 3 adorable boys with a more simple, slow-paced way of life.

There are many reasons I love photographing family’s in and around their homes. Your home is where the majority of family memories are made, so why not make your photographic memories there too? As you can imagine, photo sessions with 3 young boys comes with it’s challenges, however, because we were in their “safe place,” the boys were able to play and run around comfortably, which allowed me to get so many genuine smiles and expressions. Photographing this family in their natural habitat has created even more special memories for them to treasure. When family photography sessions can focus on love, family connection and play, my heart absolutely sings and the resulting images leave mom and dad falling in love all over again with their family.
